Plymouth Retail Education and Training Group

Plymouth was given the go ahead to set up a National Skills Academy for Retail skills shop in the city last month, one of only three skills shops in the South West with the others covering Bristol and North Devon.

 The Plymouth retail skills shop will be ‘virtual’ and will provide a single web point of access for information about education and training for the retail sector whether that be for employers, employees or people looking to enter the industry. 

 The successful proposal was supported by Plymouth Employment and Skills Board (ESB), Focus Training (SW) Ltd,  City College Plymouth,  Working Links and Enterprise Plymouth, securing accreditation for their training and delivery.

 The bid was approved by Skillsmart Retail, the Sector Skills council for retail, which aims to improve skills, training and opportunities in the retail sector.

 The National Skills Academy for Retail delivers skills solutions for retailers across the UK through a network of retail skills shops. These retail skills shops:

• Provide access to world-class skills and business support for retailers whatever their size, wherever they are located
• Lead the drive for professional, rewarding careers and skills development for everyone who works in retail
  • Create a consistent national approach for training and skills in the UK’s largest private sector employer and attract talented people into the sector
