Cleaning

The Level 2 Certificate in Cleaning and Support Services Skills is aimed at new entrants in the cleaning industry or at experienced workers who do not yet have a qualification recognised within the industry. This qualification is particularly appropriate for people whose role includes one or more of the following; the cleaning of building interiors and exteriors, highways and land, carpets and floors, food premises, passenger transport vehicles or caretaking.

The programme consists of:

• Level 2 Certificate in Cleaning and Support Services Skills
• Level 2 Certificate in Cleaning Principles
• Application of Number and Communication at level 1

Core units include:

• Health and Safety
• Working with customers and others
• Waste (routine and non routine)

Optional units include:

• Prepare for and carry out interior and washroom cleaning
• Deep cleaning
• Periodic cleaning of soft floors and furnishings
• Periodic cleaning of hard and semi-hard floors
• External cleaning
• Manual street cleaning
• Mechanised street cleaning
• Glazed surfaces
• Water fed poles
• Work at heights
• Carry out maintenance and minor repairs
• Clean high risk areas
• Clean confined spaces
• Clean food areas
• Cleaning of specialist electronic equipment
• Internal cleaning of passenger transport

Entry requirements

Must be working in a cleaning capacity.

Possible next step

Certificate in Team Leading or Level 3 Certificate in Cleaning Services Supervision.

Average length is 10 months
