Celebrating Success

Tanya Bowden

Tanya Bowden

I work at The Rashleigh Inn, a small village pub situated in Polkerris, Cornwall.  I signed up for an Apprenticeship in Bar Service in 2004 and achieved in 12 months. Within this period I gained experience in cellar duties and the supervision of staff in the pub.  I was promoted to a supervisor and took on responsibility of maintaining the cellar and ordering of drink stock.

I then enrolled for a Hospitality Supervision Advanced Apprenticeship. I was faced with the challenge of achieving Level 2 Application of Number and the Intermediate Level of Wines and Spirits Course.  I also took my NCPLH and have become a Personal Licence Holder for the pub.

I achieved my goals within twenty-four months and am now looking to complete a further qualification in Customer Service.

I work in Jack ‘n’ Jill’s, a café and take away in Tavistock.  I started as a catering assistant and began a Hospitality Quick Service Modern Apprenticeship in the summer of 2004, which I completed in 12 months. After completion I then enrolled on a Customer Service Modern Apprenticeship, within this period I gained a supervisory role within the company, I completed this framework in the autumn of 2006.

I have now settled into my supervisory role and have now signed up for an Advanced Apprenticeship in Hospitality Supervision.  I would like to complete this qualification in twelve to fifteen months so that I can progress with my career within the catering business.

I have achieved these goals whilst planning my wedding for May 2007.

I have worked for Mill Auto’s of Plympton a motor factor supplier, for two and a half years as a store man.

I left school with no qualifications.

Because of this I lacked confidence in the workplace and when I was signed up for a Distribution and Warehouse Apprenticeship it was identified by my Initial Assessment that I was able to receive additional guidance through my apprenticeship especially key skills.

I completed my apprenticeship and am now a successful team member.

I work in The Tally Ho! A village pub in Hatherleigh, Devon.

With the introduction of ETP I used my fifteen years of experience and achieved a Hospitality Food and Drink Service Level 2 in 7 months.

During the qualification I suffered from ill health but continued with the targets set to complete my NVQ and prove that anyone, ‘even in their fifties’, can achieve an NVQ and gain a recognized qualification that reflects dedication and hard work in the hospitality sector.

I have worked for King UK Ltd, a distributor of catering supplies to the industry, for twenty years as a Tele-sales representative.

I have not experienced much change in my life and therefore didn’t see the point in signing up to do an NVQ and was quite scared at the thought of it.  I did however overcome these barriers to learning and completed a Customer Service level 2 NVQ. My assessor informed me that I excelled in the course and I have a newfound faith and commitment to change and the challenges around me.
