NVQs and Apprenticeships

National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) are based on national occupational standards set by industry. The standards define the knowledge required for a particular area of work or occupation. NVQs are work-based qualifications and, therefore most of the evidence required will come from performance at work.

NVQs do not have to be completed in a specified time - within reason.  They can be taken by full-time or part-time employees. There are no age limits and no special entry requirements.

Apprenticeships are available free to all young people aged between 16 and 25 who have left full-time education and who have at least average GCSE results in English, Maths and Science.  Apprenticeships are ideally suited to young people who do not wish to attend College or Sixth Form and simply want to get into the real world of a job.  What could be better – getting a qualification and getting paid?

We also offer Advanced Apprenticeships - an NVQ level 3; two or three Key Skills and, in some sectors, a Technical Certificate. The Key Skills are at a higher level than in an Apprenticeship. This is aimed at experienced staff within a supervisory/management role.
