Job Description

A new and exciting opportunity for a confident and reliable candidate to join a busy GP Practice. The position will include face to face contact with patients and dealing with patient enquiries over the telephone both from the main surgery address and from the University Medical Centre based centrally.


  • Responsibilities will vary but will include supporting a very busy admin/reception team in dealing with patients both face to face and over the telephone
  • Other tasks could include booking patients in for routine appointments and handing general medical enquiries including liaising with local GPs and other NHS/medical contacts
  • You will be involved in many administration support tasks including scanning of documents, photocopying medical notes and reports, filing patient notes and general, accurate, record keeping tasks

Most tasks will involve computer based tasks so accurate and reliable ICT skills will be required with a good eye for detail.

Due to the nature of the employment any potential apprentice must respect all aspects of business and client confidentiality at all times and respect all patients who visit the surgery. 

Qualification Requirements

  • Reliable and accurate keyboard skills paying particular attention with data inputting tasks
  • Good attention to detail in all other admin based tasks - filing, copying, record keeping
  • Ability to prioritise work tasks and to be able to work in a calm, focused manner
  • Excellent/confident telephone manner - to be aware of client confidentiality at all times

This new role is an exciting opportunity for an outgoing and proactive candidate to join a small but very busy GP Practice. Role will include regular contact with patients both face to face and over the phone. The role will allow candidate to gain transferable administration skills that can be used outside of the NHS.

Responsibilities will be varied but are mainly aimed at supporting a busy reception area.  Tasks could include:

  • Assisting with patients within the Reception area
  • Booking in patients for routine appointments
