New Minimum Wage Information

If you pay the National Minimum Wage, please ensure that apprentice wages are changed to reflect the new legal requirements, with effect from 1 April 2017. Please note that this wage includes time spent on-the-job and in training, in addition to leave entitlement.

The new rates are as follows:

  • £3.50 per hour for apprentices aged 16 to 18, and those over 19 in the first year of their apprenticeship
  • £4.05 per hour for those aged under 18 years old
  • £5.60 per hour for those aged 18-20 years old
  • £7.05 per hour for those aged 21-24 years old
  • £7.50 per hour for those aged 25 and over*

The new apprenticeship minimum wage affects all 16-18 year old apprentices, and those aged 19 or over in the first year of their apprenticeship. All other apprentices should be paid the National Minimum Wage according to their age bracket (as above).  For further information, please visit https://www.gov.uk/national-minimum-wage-rates
